Learning to convert a brand into an experience

Working on the Banana Festival as part of my final thesis project at Enterspace Designlab offered me the unique opportunity to collaborate with some of the most talented designers in the industry. The festival was not just about creating an event; it was about embodying the vibrant, playful spirit of the studio in every detail. Throughout the project, I worked closely with industry experts who brought a wealth of knowledge in experiential design, branding, and event management. Their insights and creativity were instrumental in shaping the festival into a truly memorable experience. This collaboration allowed me to refine my own design skills, gain a deeper understanding of the industry, and build lasting professional relationships with some of the best in the field. The experience was invaluable in my growth as a designer, as it pushed me to explore new ideas and execute them at a high level of excellence.

Growing a media product in the the emerging Indian market

My work on optimising the login process, implementing AI-driven content discovery, and enhancing the search experience directly contributed to a substantial increase in the app's key performance metrics. The app rating improved from 1.8 to 4.6 on the App Store, establishing it as the highest-rated OTT platform in India. This improvement, combined with a 70% increase in the viewer-to-user ratio and a rise in Daily Active Users (DAU) from 9.2 to 10.7 million—of which 80% were new users—drove significant user growth

Business Growth:

Through pioneering AI features like personalized recommendations and search optimization, I helped create a more engaging and intuitive user experience. These advancements led to an 82% search click-through rate (CTR), breaking industry benchmarks and enhancing user satisfaction. The increase in engagement metrics demonstrated the platform's ability to retain users and deepen their interaction with content.

User Engagement:

As a Team Lead, I played a crucial role in mentoring and developing designers who went on to lead their own successful projects. My leadership fostered a culture of innovation, which was reflected in our team's achievement as runners-up in a company-wide hackathon. The process alterations and innovations I introduced not only improved our team's efficiency but also influenced design practices across the entire organization, leading to more streamlined and effective workflows.

Team and Process Innovation:

Impact

The design initiatives and leadership contributions I made significantly transformed both the product and the team's operations, resulting in profound business, user, and organizational outcomes.

Overall, my work as a Senior Product Designer and Team Lead has left a lasting impact on the product, the team, and the broader organization, driving growth, innovation, and excellence in user experience.

What Sets Us Apart

Problem Statement:

Despite the growing emphasis on sustainability, many users lack the necessary tools to effectively monitor and manage their electricity consumption. Traditional electricity bills provide delayed and aggregated data, which does not offer users real-time feedback on their energy usage habits. The challenge was to design a mobile application that would enable users to monitor their electricity consumption in real-time and take informed steps to reduce their energy usage.

Research Methodology

This project marked my first experience in designing a mobile application, and I followed a structured design process to ensure a user-centric approach:
  • Expert Interviews: I conducted interviews with energy experts, sustainability consultants, and utility providers to gain insights into the challenges of electricity consumption and the effectiveness of real-time monitoring. These discussions highlighted the importance of providing users with easy-to-understand data and actionable recommendations.

  • User Surveys: I designed and distributed surveys to potential users to gather data on their current understanding of electricity consumption, their challenges, and their interest in real-time monitoring. The surveys revealed that most users were unaware of the specifics of their energy usage and expressed a strong interest in tools that could help them reduce consumption.

  • Competitive Analysis: I analyzed existing energy monitoring tools and applications to identify their strengths, weaknesses, and gaps. This analysis helped in defining unique value propositions for the app, such as a user-friendly interface, detailed consumption breakdowns, and personalized tips.

Design Process:

This project marked my first experience in designing a mobile application, and I followed a structured design process to ensure a user-centric approach:
  • User Flow Diagrams: I began by mapping out the user journey, focusing on key interactions such as setting up the app, real-time monitoring, viewing consumption history, and receiving recommendations. This helped in identifying the essential screens and navigation patterns.

  • Information Architecture: I structured the app’s content to ensure that users could easily access important information. The architecture was designed to be intuitive, with clear categorization of data, including real-time usage, historical trends, and recommendations.

  • Low-Fidelity Wireframes: I sketched initial wireframes to visualize the layout of the app. These wireframes were crucial in iterating on the design quickly and testing different approaches to information presentation and user interaction.

  • High-Fidelity Wireframes: Once the structure was finalized, I created detailed, high-fidelity wireframes that included specific UI elements, color schemes, and typography. The visual design focused on clarity, simplicity, and accessibility, ensuring that users could easily interpret their energy usage data.

  • Prototyping: I developed interactive prototypes to simulate the app’s functionality. These prototypes were used for user testing, where I gathered feedback on the app’s usability, aesthetics, and overall effectiveness in delivering real-time energy monitoring.
